Are You my Mother

Reader’s Annotation: Celebrated children's author PD Eastman delivers a classic story in Are You My Mother. This is a topic that toddlers are fascinated with. Mother is a very important person in their life, and consequently, the animal mothers are even more fascinating!

Author/Illustrator: P.D. Eastman
Age: 2 and up
genre/subject: Children's literature, picture book
Plot Summary: A baby bird hatches while his mother is out find food for him, he is left to find his mother and goes from animal to animal to determine this.
Evaluation: This is bound to be a favorite among 2-3 year olds. Amazon assigns an age-range of 3 and up, but I think this book applies to younger audiences. At about 2 years, children become acutely aware of the mother-child relationship. If fact, the question arises constantly: is that the baby? Is she the mother? Where is the father? Recognizing their own family unit in others, including animals, is common.
Significance & Bibliographic Usefulness: alliteration, repetition.
