READER’S ANNOTATION: This book is about the one of many World War II "Soldier Brides." The author writes from the perspective of a young British boy, whose mother married an American GI, and documents the voyage to the U.S. after the war on the Queen Mary. It is an excellent source of nonfiction for very young readers! The illustrations are also beautiful, and interesting as, the account reveals little known facts, for instance, the swimming pool of the Queen Mary was dried out use as a large laundry room for all the babies transported on these trips.
